How can we help you?
Bogota has major environmental challenges that place it 92nd out of 174 cities in the world according to the Cities in Motion index.
Analysis
The Cities in Motion Index 2020 measures the environmental performance of cities with 11 indicators covering air quality, efficient water management and waste management. Additionally, it includes the effect of climate change through the expected temperatures for the city in 2100. Bogota ranks 92nd out of 174 cities globally in the environmental sustainability dimension of the index. In Latin America, it ranks 9th out of 16 cities. Medellín and Cali also appear in the ranking, in 110th and 118th place respectively. The 3 Colombian cities worsened their environmental index from 2018 to 2019: Medellín lost 43 positions, Cali 38 and Bogotá 27. From 2019 to 2020 Medellín recovered 4 positions, Cali remained in the same place and Bogotá lost 3 positions. The city has very delicate environmental sustainability challenges, such as improving air quality and establishing efficient waste management that will move it towards a circular economy. A sustainable city is more productive and attractive to investors, for this reason, the CCB is leading the collective construction of the Sustainability Agenda for a More Productive Bogota.
