Analysis

During the first quarter of 2021, it is estimated that Bogota-Region received 22 new and expansion FDI projects, valued at approximately US$308 million. These projects represent 47% of the total projects at the national level and account for 11% of the value of all projects finalized in the country. The data suggest that more projects were obtained in the region for less value than in the rest of the country. This is due to the nature of extractive investments in the rest of the country; investments in gas, oil and metal extraction require a greater flow of investment.

Description

New and expansion foreign direct investment (FDI) corresponds to the arrival in the economy of any project in which a foreign company considers building its own headquarters or subsidiary, this implies the installation of new equipment (new fixed capital) and the creation of new jobs in the economy. This type of project is usually chosen when the firm orients its expectations to a specific design and to achieve a greater presence in the host economy.

Bogotá-Region is composed of the city of Bogotá and the municipalities of Cajicá, Chía, Choachí, Cota, Facatativá, Funza, Gachancipá, Girardot, Guasca, Madrid, Mosquera, Nilo, Sesquilé, Sibaté, Soacha, Sopó, Tenjo, Tocancipá and Zipaquirá.
