FDI amounts 2016 - first quarter 2021

New and expansion foreign direct investment (FDI) corresponds to the arrival in the economy of any project in which a foreign company considers building its own headquarters or subsidiary, which implies the installation of new equipment (new fixed capital) and the creation of new jobs in the economy. This type of project is usually chosen when the firm orients its expectations to a specific design and to achieve a greater presence in the host economy.

Bogotá-Region is composed of the city of Bogotá and the municipalities of Cajicá, Chía, Choachí, Cota, Facatativá, Funza, Gachancipá, Girardot, Guasca, Madrid, Mosquera, Nilo, Sesquilé, Sibaté, Soacha, Sopó, Tenjo, Tocancipá and Zipaquirá.

In the last 6 years, it is estimated that Bogota-Region received a total of US$ 12,179 million in new and expansion foreign direct investment, with an average of US$ 2,030 million per year. The economic recovery in 2021 positively impacted Bogota-Region by presenting significant increases on new and expansion FDI flows. In this context, in 2021, there was an increase of 78% compared to 2020. In 2021, there was a 29% growth in the number of jobs created compared to the average of the last 5 years. Comparing 2020 and 2021, the growth in the number of jobs created is 104%.
