The information corresponds to the number of HEIs at the technical-professional, technological and professional levels in the main regions of Colombia, and the modalities of training at the undergraduate level in higher education are as follows:
Technical Professional Training Modality (related to professional technical programs).
Technological Training Modality (related to technological programs).
Professional Training Modality (related to professional programs).
In turn, higher education institutions (HEI), according to their academic nature, are classified as follows:
Professional technical institutions.
Technological institutions.
University institutions or technological schools.
Universities.
This last academic character (that of university) can be achieved, by legal mandate (art. 20 of Law 30 of 1992), by institutions that, having the academic character of university institutions or technological schools, meet the requirements indicated in article 20 of Law 30 of 1992, which are developed in Decree 1212 of 1993.According to the academic character, and as provided in Law 30 of 1992, and in article 213 of Law 115 of 1994, institutions of higher education (IES) have the legal capacity to develop academic programs as follows:Professional technical institutions:
Undergraduate level: professional technical programs.
Postgraduate level: professional technical specializations.
Technological institutions
Undergraduate level: professional technical programs and technological programs.
Postgraduate level: professional technical specializations and technological specializations.
University institutions or technological schools:
Undergraduate level: professional technical programs, technological programs and professional programs.
Postgraduate level: professional technical specializations, technological specializations and professional specializations.
Universities and technological schools may also obtain ministerial authorization to offer and develop master's and doctoral programs if they meet the requirements mentioned in paragraph 21 of Article 21 of Law 30 of 1992, as indicated in the regulation:
Undergraduate level: professional technical programs, technological programs and professional programs.
Postgraduate level: professional technical specializations, technological specializations, professional specializations and master's and doctoral degrees, provided they meet the requirements set forth in Articles 19 and 20 of Law 30 of 1992.
