General Results Great Integrated Household Survey for May 2024

DANE published the results of the Great Integrated Household Survey (GEIH), which measures the dynamics of the labor market in Colombia and the main cities and metropolitan areas. One of the objectives of this survey is to provide basic information on the size and structure of the country's labor force. Through the survey, people are classified according to their labor force as employed, unemployed or inactive. In this way, it is possible to estimate the main indicators of the Colombian labor market.

Unemployment in Colombia

The unemployment rate in Colombia in December 2025 was 7.7%, 1.1 percentage points lower than in December 2024 (8.8%).

The national unemployment rate for women in December 2025 was 10.1%, representing a decrease of 1.8 percentage points from the rate in December 2024, which was 11.9%.

The number of employed persons has been trending upward in the last months of 2024 and the first months of 2025; for the rolling quarter October–December 2025, the number of employed persons rose to 4.4 million, representing a 4.2% increase compared to the same period last year.

The city with the highest unemployment rate in the October-December 2025 quarter was Quibdó with a rate of 23.1%, followed by Cartagena with 14.1% and Sincelejo with 11.4%.
