Awards Rendered in Domestic Arbitration

This interactive dashboard is designed to provide a simple way to analyze the volume, timing, and composition of awards issued through the various Dispute Resolution Mechanisms (DRMs) administered by the Center.

How to Use the Charts? (Step-by-Step)

  • To Filter the Information:

On the left side, there is a panel with several drop-down lists. When you click on any of them (for example, to select a year or a type of service), the entire dashboard will update automatically.

  • To View Hidden Details (Contracts Chart):

Step 1 (Drill Down):

Find the bar you want to explore in depth (for example, “Construction”), right-click on it, and select the “Drill Down” option. The chart will change completely to show you the specific items and contracts within that category.

Step 2 (Return to the Start):

If you have finished reviewing the details and want to return to the overview, simply click the green “Clear” button located on the left panel. This will reset your search and return all charts to their original state. The chart titled “Breakdown of Awards: Area, Subject Matter, and Contract” functions like a magnifying glass, allowing you to drill down into the data using your mouse.

Types of Arbitration

Domestic arbitration is divided into different categories based on procedural and economic characteristics. First, “Domestic Arbitration” proper refers to proceedings in which the standard procedure set forth in Law 1563 of 2012 or in Part II of the Center’s General Rules is applied. Abbreviated Arbitration, on the other hand, refers exclusively to cases processed under the Rules of Procedure for Abbreviated National Arbitration, contained in Part IV of the same regulations, which aims to expedite the resolution process. Finally, Labor Arbitration covers disputes where the amount in dispute is less than 40 SMLMV and in which no fees are paid to the arbitrators and secretaries, nor are any administrative expenses incurred by the Center; in this type of community-based proceeding, it is perfectly feasible to apply either the ordinary or the abbreviated national procedure, which will depend strictly on what the parties have defined and signed in their arbitration agreement, whether through an arbitration clause or a commitment.
