One Year of the Water and Circular Economy Cluster: Review and Progress for a Sustainable Region

07 October 2025The Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá (CCB) is commemorating the first anniversary of the Water and Circular Economy Cluster, a strategic initiative that in just one year has consolidated a unique ecosystem in the country. It has successfully articulated the business sector, academia, the public sector, and social actors to tackle the challenges of water resources and waste management in Bogotá and Cundinamarca.

This initiative was launched in September 2024 with the purpose of supporting the strengthening of the business fabric and the popular economy linked to water and circularity. Since then, it has promoted innovation, capacity building, and the creation of new business opportunities based on the sustainable use of resources.

First-Year Results

In its first year of operation, the cluster has achieved significant results:

More than 1,500 companies and entrepreneurs accessed seminars, workshops, and training cycles designed to improve processes, identify innovation opportunities, and upgrade products and services.

Circular networking events were held, allowing 62 companies and 5 recyclers' associations to secure more than 200 business appointments, with a 70% effectiveness in establishing relationships as clients, sustainable suppliers, or strategic allies.

The capacity of 77 recyclers' associations, which group together more than 6,200 grassroots recyclers, and 49 community aqueducts, representing over 10,000 subscribers (around 40,000 directly benefited people), was strengthened.

These achievements reflect not only the scope of the cluster but also its role as an articulator of inter-institutional and social efforts toward sustainability.

Strategic Impact on the Region

The cluster brings together more than 4,900 companies related to the sector. Of these:

511 are dedicated to water capture, treatment, and distribution, consultancy and design of water solutions, and wastewater management.

4,378 operate in waste collection, utilization, and disposal.

38 offer related services such as technical and laboratory analysis.

The active participation of these companies has allowed Bogotá and Cundinamarca to advance toward a model of circular economy and urban resilience, transforming the challenges of climate change, population growth, and pressure on natural resources into opportunities for innovation and sustainable development.

A Long-Term Vision

In addition to business benefits, the cluster has prioritized the inclusion of social actors historically invisible in the value chain. Training processes in conflict resolution, administrative management, and project formulation have enabled recyclers' organizations and community aqueducts to access new tools for their sustainability.

This first year marks only the beginning of an effort that seeks to consolidate the cluster as a benchmark in corporate sustainability and territorial resilience. With the results achieved, the CCB reaffirms its role as an articulating entity and promoter of regional competitiveness, generating value for both companies and the communities that directly depend on the integral management of water and waste.
