Forum and Editorial Meeting: the interdisciplinary components of ARTBO | Weekend

20 April 2022For three days, from April 22 to 24, ARTBO | Weekend brings together Bogota's exhibition spaces, artists, curators and the general public.

For three days, from April 22 to 24, ARTBO | Weekend brings together Bogota's exhibition spaces, artists, curators and the general public in a city event that includes four components with special free content, among them, Forum: a section that offers a series of talks and lectures by national and international guests to address issues associated with contemporary art. In its 2022 version, it will be held in person at the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce - Chapinero Office (Calle 67 # 8-32, floor -1), under the curatorship of Ana Castella in collaboration with LIAISONS. At CCB - Chapinero, in the Exhibition Hall, will also be held the Editorial Encounter, a section that brings together projects that promote the book as a means of artistic reflection, under the curatorship of Relámpago.

Forum

Curatorial concept

The theme proposed in this curatorship approaches the concept of restoration from different axes and perspectives linked to the regional and global ecosystem of contemporary art in a post-pandemic framework. The talks analyze the predominant models of operation: institutions, foundations and residencies, galleries, fairs and other commercial platforms, as well as new curatorial practices and digital spaces. These fields of operation are reviewed under the different meanings that we can subtract from the concept of restoration, and in the other concepts related to artistic practices that have similarities with activities around health and care.

Curatorship is conceived as the act of healing and curing, and it is also a reflection on the restoration of material goods, but also of knowledge and histories. In this space we analyze the transformations we have undergone during and after the pandemic: what do we want to restore from that past and what changes do we keep? How could we work towards a healthier community and system? Urgent issues such as demographic shifts, climate change, the health crisis, labor conditions, food security, as well as mediation and information dissemination are considered through the lens of restoration, conservation and care. Finally, we seek to understand the role of hospitality within diverse cultural activities.

About Ana Castella

With more than 15 years of experience working in the field of contemporary art in Latin America and Europe, in her work as a curator and cultural manager she has a particular interest in the intersection of hospitality and the arts. She recently curated the Guest Projects section for the 9th edition of Salón ACME in Mexico City. Between 2018 and 2021 she was head of Development and International Council at Museo Tamayo, and was a member of the gallery selection committee at the art fair Fundación ArteBA in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2018 she coordinated the first edition of Condo in Mexico City, with 27 international galleries in 22 local galleries.

Editorial Meeting

Curatorial concept

Under the name Mutantes, Relámpago proposes a space that celebrates transformation as a fundamental process of creation and life. Ideas and matter are reorganized, regrouped and through continuous interactions result in new alternatives. Forty-one independent projects will gather here to review the edition of publications as a craft that through energetic mutations produces publications and objects; to reflect on the use of matter, the practices that promote new orders and the creation of these as a transformative act. This space will also present a photographic exhibition that will dialogue with these proposals.

About Relámpago

Relámpago is a place where visual projects are thought and produced. It is a team, a publishing house, a printing house, an exhibition space, a design studio. At its heart is a movable type workshop which, through experimental practices, reconfigures heritage and uses it to learn and unlearn the present. It is a platform where whimsical projects are revised, disrupted and rearranged. It is a team that believes in building networks and rebuilding community through craft and art. Relámpago is a republican house located in the Santa Teresita neighborhood of Bogotá. There, there is an exhibition space where talks, workshops and parties have been held, a printing press and several offices on the second floor. Relámpago is a project by Andrés Fresneda and Valeria Giraldo.
