Bogotá D.C., March 2023. The Bogotá Chamber of Commerce (CCB) launched the third edition of the Commercial Customs Research Contest, which seeks that teams, made up of students and a teacher, identify and postulate commercial practices that are not in investigation stage or that have not been certified by the CCB as commercial custom.
Teams made up of three (3) students led by a professor from the same university can participate in the contest, who will represent the institution of which they are part. Universities can participate with several teams as long as there are no repeat students in the groups.
The research work must take into account the requirements established by law for the practice to be certified as commercial custom and include a field study of at least five (5) companies where the application of the practice is verified.
Commercial customs are practices carried out by people in an economic sector, in a uniform, repeated and public way, which can be certified and can be required in business. For example: that in contracts for the sale of real estate, the seller assumes the obligation to deliver the property to the buyer in good standing for property tax, residential public services and administration fees and in contracts for the sale of used service vehicles In particular, it is commercial custom that the seller delivers the following accessories to the buyer: spare tire and floor mats.
With the participation in the Third Research Contest on Commercial Customs, students will be able to approach in a practical way the legal knowledge of the sources of Commercial Law, as did the 12 students who participated in the first version and the 32 students who competed in the second. version of the contest, with the possibility, by the finalists, of presenting their practice to be certified as a commercial custom by the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá.
