  • The fifth edition of the BFW was attended by 19,000 people, generated business expectations in the short, medium and long term for US$2.5 million according to a survey of 50% of the designers, and achieved effective retail sales of $1.5 billion.

  • International buyers -from countries such as the United States, France, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica- included representatives of major multi-brand stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Printemps, Piso Siete; and boutiques such as L'Exception, Proyecto República, Pineapple Concept Store, Call me Lola and Theme Dresser.

The fifth edition of Bogota Fashion Week - BFW, the commercial and promotional platform for fashion of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, ended successfully on Saturday, May 21, with the attendance of 19,000 people, the presence of 20 Colombian and Latin American guests in the academic fringe, and the participation of 161 Colombian brands and 50 national and international buyers who met in nearly 400 business appointments.

After two years of health emergency and a digital initiative that launched the program with the aim of boosting the sector's economy during this period, Bogota Fashion Week returned in 2022 with a comprehensive proposal that included sections for sales activation: Wholesale Business, Pop-up Stores, Designer Multibrand and Catwalks, where 161 brands participated; and complementary sections, such as Conversations and Experience Room, which offered a free program of more than 30 events.

Business wholesale was the component dedicated to the generation of business and the growth of companies, from the local and global markets. According to a sample of close to 50% of the brands, this space generated short-, medium- and long-term business expectations of US$2.5 million.

Among the international buyers -from countries such as the United States, France, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua and Costa Rica- were representatives of large multi-brand stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Printemps, Piso Siete; and boutiques such as L'Exception, Proyecto República, Pineapple Concept Store, Call me Lola and Theme Dresser, with which approximately 400 business appointments were made, enabling the closing and planning of commercial agreements, ratifying the role of the program in positioning Bogota and the region as a fashion business capital at the national and international level.

María Paz Gaviria, Platforms Manager of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, stated that:

"This fashion week contributed once again to the positioning of the city as the business capital of fashion thanks to the support provided to designers, the quality of their samples, the strengthening of their business models, and the sales made. Bogota Fashion Week is definitely an integral bet for the strengthening of the fashion sector, where design proposals with a global seal converge, where local talent is positioned before the world".

The pop-up stores, meanwhile, served as a great showcase for retail sales, where the 19,000 attendees had the opportunity to purchase directly the pieces of the most successful collections of the participating brands. Through this space, which was inaugurated during the fifth edition of BFW, close to $1.5 billion pesos in effective sales were generated.

Buyers

Gael Deboise, (KM33 - Mexico, Guadalajara), said: "On this occasion I had the opportunity to close deals with Najash; Verdi, by designer Tomás Vera; and to close a collaboration and special edition with Lauval. It is incredible the growth and support that the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, through BFW, offers to local designers so that they can internationalize".

Mare Ramos- COO (Republic Project - Mexico, Mexico City) said:

"I wanted to come because I wanted to see how they have achieved this infrastructure, that of being able to support designers through the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, from the designer to us buyers as the final product. It is very important to me to see all this synergy and all this union that they have achieved to support the businessman in international sales".

He also added that "it is evident that the participating brands have prepared themselves to sell both wholesale (wholesale business) and retail (pop-up stores) and that as buyers it is a very good reference because it gives them a guideline to do different things in their countries. "The commitment to support local products does not exist elsewhere, being able to see it here gives us references to be able to promote it".
