In 2021, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce provided more than 401,700 assistance services to entrepreneurs and business people in Bogota and the region.
Bogota, February 2022. Bogota and the Region closed the year 2021 with a total of 470,579 active companies, that is 6% less compared to 2019 (the year before the pandemic) and 5% more than 2020.
The total number of active companies in Bogota went from 436,942 in 2019 to 384,352 in 2020 and to 404,054 in 2021, which meant that in 2021 there was an 8% reduction when compared to 2019 and a 5% increase when compared to 2020. This behavior shows a slight recovery, after having registered one year earlier the sharpest drop in the last 10 years.
In the 59 municipalities of Cundinamarca where the CCB has jurisdiction, the number of active companies at the end of 2019 was 64,144, in 2020 it was 61,722 and in 2021 it was 66,525. In contrast to the capital, for 2021 there was a 4% recovery compared to 2019, the period prior to the pandemic.
Of the total number of active companies in Bogota and the Region in 2021, 53.9% corresponded to services; 32.3% to commerce and 13.8% to industry.
According to size, the majority of active companies in 2021 were MSMEs, (99.5%), where 94.3% corresponds to microenterprises, followed by small (4.1%), medium (1.1%) and large 0.5%.
The localities with the highest participation of active companies are, in order, Suba (51,628), Usaquén (41,814), Kennedy (40,732), and Engativá (38,201). Usme is the one that showed the highest level of recovery compared to 2020 by growing 9% and at the same time it was the one that showed the smallest drop compared to 2019 by showing only 1% less companies.
Creation of companies 2021
In 2021, there was a 7% reduction in the creation of companies in Bogota and the 59 municipalities of the CCB's jurisdiction, going from 91,977 in 2019 to 85,267 in 2021. In 2020, 75,144 companies were created.
In Bogotá alone 78,550 companies were created in 2019, in 2020 62,033 were created, and in 2021 a total of 70,489, which meant a 10% drop between 2019 and 2021.In the 59 municipalities of Cundinamarca where the CCB has jurisdiction, 13,427 companies were created in 2019, 13,121 in 2020 and 14,778 in 2021. In other words, between 2019 and 2021 there was a 10% growth.
Of the total number of companies created in Bogota and the Region in 2021, 53.3% correspond to services; 32.9% to commerce and 13.8% to industry.
According to size, most of the companies created in 2021 were MSMEs, (99.99%), where 99.9% were microenterprises, followed by small (0.1%) and medium (0.03%) and large 0.01%.
The localities where most companies were created were Suba (9,130), Kennedy (8,111), Engativá (7,150) and Usaquén (5,878). Usme is the only locality that created more companies in 2021 than in 2019, the year prior to the pandemic with a growth of 3%.
