Bogota and the region closed 2022 with 498,705 active companies, 0.3% less than in 2019

16 January 2023- In 2022, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce continued with its strategic focus on serving MSMEs, which represent 99.4% of the business fabric.
- In order to boost sales, the digital transformation of businesses and their sustainability, 18,585 MSMEs from various sectors benefited through the Bandera Programs, a strategy that seeks to strengthen and support businesses.

Bogota and the Region closed the year with a total of 498,705 active companies, 0.3% less than in 2019 (pre-pandemic) and an increase of 6.3% compared to 2021.

According to size, of the total number of active companies 93.7% are microenterprises, 4.5% small; 1.2% medium and 0.6% large. The City Region continues to be a service center, as 54.3% are located in this sector, while 31.9% belong to the commerce sector and 13.8% to industry.

The behavior in the business dynamics of the total number of active companies in Bogota and the Region has registered recovery after the pandemic, since while in 2019 (pre-pandemic) there were 500,072 active companies; in 2020 there were 444,968; in 2021 there were 469,156 and in 2022 there were 498,705.

In Bogota alone, the total number of active companies was 426,905, i.e. 6.1% more than in 2021 and 2% less than in 2019. The localities with the highest share of active companies are in order Suba (53,391), Usaquén (42,821), Kennedy (42,435), and Chapinero (39,537). Ciudad Bolivar is the one that showed the highest level of recovery compared to 2021 by growing 11% and 2.2% compared to 2019, followed by Bosa with a growth of 9.7% compared to 2021 and 1.8% compared to 2019.

In the 59 municipalities of Cundinamarca where the CCB has jurisdiction, active companies were 71,800, 7.7% more than in 2021 and 11.7% more compared to 2019.

Created Enterprises

At the close of 2022, 89,995 companies were created in Bogota and the Region, 2% less compared to 2019 but 5.7% more compared to 2021.

o   In Bogota alone, 74,301 were created in 2022, i.e., 5.2% less compared to 2019, but an increase of 5.8% compared to 2021.o In the 59 municipalities of Cundinamarca where the CCB has jurisdiction, 15,694 companies were created in 2022, 16.6% more compared to 2019 and 5.3% compared to 2021.

According to size, most of the companies created in 2022 were MSMEs, (99.99%), where 99.9% were microenterprises, followed by small (0.07%), medium (0.02%) and large 0.01%.

The localities where most companies were created in 2022 were Suba (9,007), Kennedy (7,995), Engativá (6,756) and Usaquén (5,616).

Services Balance

In 2022, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce continued with its strategic focus on serving MSMEs, which represent 99.4% of the business fabric. During the year, the entity benefited a total of 165,424 MSMEs with services to strengthen their businesses.

In order to boost sales, the digital transformation of businesses and their sustainability, 18,585 MSMEs from various sectors were benefited through the Bandera Programs, a strategy that seeks to strengthen and support businesses. In addition, during the year the entity provided tools that allowed MSMEs to expand their marketing channels, access resources, and improve their accounting management. 

Likewise, six editions of Fairs for your Business were held in different locations, benefiting 5,644 entrepreneurs and citizens.

In the area of entrepreneurship, in line with the goal of making Bogota the entrepreneurship capital of Latin America, the CCB supported the creation of 1,665 companies by 2022. It also supported entrepreneurs to make them visible in strategic commercial spaces such as the Entrepreneurship Pavilion, where 353 entrepreneurs were present at Corferias free of charge thanks to the support of the CCB, achieving sales of $1.5 billion and more than 19,300 business contacts.

One of the main channels to promote the commercialization of MSMEs is Bazzarbog, a free digital showcase that allows companies in Bogota and its region to display their products and services in a personalized and unlimited way. The platform has 22,427 products and services exhibited from 1,546 online companies of local talent.

In the region

During 2022, the CCB supported more than 12 thousand entrepreneurs in 50 municipalities in strengthening their businesses, thus contributing to a region with more and better companies by providing free services in the territory.

Fourteen regional fairs were held, benefiting 2,500 entrepreneurs; the region's competitiveness was boosted, benefiting more than 980 companies through sectoral initiatives; actions were carried out to simplify 47 procedures in 11 municipalities, facilitating the operation of companies and seeking to reduce excessive procedures and costs for entrepreneurs. Among them, the Single Business Window was set up in 7 municipalities.

With the "Pedaling for Cundinamarca" initiative, 11 cycling days were held to promote tourism in the region and benefit 475 businesses along the routes.

The Bogotá Chamber of Commerce invites micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to access business strengthening services, most of which are free and tailored to their needs.
