Bogota, July 2024. The Bogota Audiovisual Market - BAM, a program of the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce and Proimagenes Colombia, successfully concluded its fifteenth edition, consolidating its position as one of the most important events in the Latin American audiovisual industry. During the four days of the market, professionals and enthusiasts from the audiovisual world gathered to promote the creation, distribution and co-production of quality content.

The main BAM activities were divided between the Experience Venue (Gimnasio Moderno), which featured talks with academic experts such as Raúl García (animator of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King), Rodrigo Teixeira (Oscar winner for Call Me By Your Name) and Diane Guerrero (Orange is the New Black, Jane The Virgin) -BAM Talks-;

industry breakfasts -BAM Brunches-; a trade fair -BIG Top-; a space with activities dedicated to television -Lounge-; a stage dedicated to new media, Artificial Intelligence and videogames -BAM CAFÉ-; and another space to discuss projects, products and services of the allies -BAM Forum-.

The Industry Headquarters (Chapinero Headquarters of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce) hosted one-on-one meetings -One-to-one Meetings-; sessions between high-level industry professionals on specialized topics and market trends -Market Sessions-; specialized training activities for those selected by call -Business Engagement-; and spaces in which those selected presented their projects to potential buyers, partners and/or investors -BAM Pitches-. Attendees were able to enjoy a diverse program designed to address the current challenges and opportunities of the audiovisual market.

As a novelty, this year Latin American cinema was given special prominence, highlighting its regional character and strengthening ties through various activities.

The program included Coproducir con Latinoamérica, which brought together voices from Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Dominican Republic and Uruguay, fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas. In addition, El cine latinoamericano se piensa offered debates and reflections on the teaching, production and distribution of film in the region, with the participation of guests such as Pablo Lozano (Dominican Republic), Cecilia Barrionuevo (Argentina) and Carlos Gutiérrez (Mexico), among others.

In addition, agents, festivals and other relevant players in the audiovisual industry participated in the event, offering their support and contributing to the success of the market. The presence of these collaborators and allies strengthened the projection and impact of the BAM at the international level. More than 560 business appointments were scheduled by the BAM team, which allowed the projects selected by call to establish commercial ties, explore co-production opportunities and finalize financial agreements. These meetings contributed to the growth and expansion of the audiovisual industry in the region.

At the closing ceremony of BAM, the winners of the categories BAMMERS, Stories, Film Projects, Series Projects, Animation, Film Screenings and Rough shorts were announced; they received awards, scholarships and grants that will allow them to continue advancing in their professional careers.

Some experts gave their opinions about the BAM.

Roxana Ramos - Founder Aramos Cine SRL (Argentina).“It's my first BAM and I didn't think it was going to be so spectacular, the agendas are put together and then you in turn want to put together more agendas because the stories they tell us are beautiful stories from Colombia, Chilean, Brazilian, Mexican stories, it's also a way to get to know each other through the stories....I think many countries have a lot to learn from BAM in terms of how well structured it is, how well put together, how much work is put in for cinema, and for Latin American cinema, I think it's a great meeting to generate co-productions. ”

Luiz Toledo - Director of Investments and Strategic Alliances of SP Cine (Brazil) “Being at BAM, being in contact with the most important producers, not only from Colombia but from all of Latin America, is a unique opportunity to put our producers in contact with each other so that they can make more co-productions, so that Latin American films and series can travel more between our countries... I see BAM and the Colombian market as an opportunity for the Brazilian audiovisual industry.

BAM Regions 2024

Since 2021, and in alliance with the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies - MinTIC, the Bogota Audiovisual Market went out to explore the regions of Colombia in order to decentralize the supply of industry spaces for the country's audiovisual sector.With this objective, the BAM has taken the market experience to 13 cities in the country, identifying and learning from the local industry and providing visibility and training to its producers, filmmakers, companies, students and different actors linked to the audiovisual sector.

With more than 10 allied entities, 899 accredited participants at the regional level and 148 activities developed in 2023, BAM Regions has established itself as a fundamental space for the recognition and visibility of the industry at the regional level and has generated important local networks for the development of new content and the participation of new filmmakers and audiovisual producers in the various calls for proposals from the MinTIC, the FDC and BAM.

In 2024, with the accompaniment and joint work with the MinTIC, BAM regions returns to the road to new destinations: Yopal, Quibdó, Mocoa and Sincelejo.
