Bogota, May 2025. The Bogota Chamber of Commerce (CCB) launched this Wednesday the TEC and Knowledge Economy Cluster, an ambitious initiative that updates and modernizes the Software and IT Cluster by integrating new approaches such as emerging economies, artificial intelligence, the impact on business development and the increasingly knowledge-based economy.
The launch took place during the Annual Cluster Meeting 2025, an inter-cluster event organized by the CCB, which was attended by the Mayor of Bogota, Carlos Fernando Galán, and which year after year consolidates as a reference for the articulation of entrepreneurs, academia, government, startups and innovation centers.
Ovidio Claros Polanco, executive president of the CCB, stated that “the Bogota Chamber of Commerce is committed to the development of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), among other actions, through the work being developed by the 19 clusters and the wide range of services and initiatives made available to entrepreneurs. The launch of the TEC cluster is a decisive step towards the productive transformation of Bogota and Cundinamarca and the strengthening of the knowledge-based economy”.
He indicated that the evolution of the Cluster responds to the need to go beyond software development and the promotion of an ecosystem articulated between technology-based companies, universities, research centers and public entities, to generate innovative solutions and face the main social, environmental and productive challenges of Bogota and Cundinamarca, an area where about 35 thousand companies linked to the new Cluster are grouped.
The TEC Cluster and the entire cluster ecosystem seeks to nurture and is integrated with the city project, Campus of Science, Technology and Innovation (CTIB), which aims to foster collaboration between academia, the public and private sectors, and citizens, to help Bogota become a benchmark for the knowledge economy in Latin America.
The Executive President of the CCB pointed out: “We ourselves, as an entity, must lead by example and be at the forefront in issues related to digital, innovation and technological appropriation, to provide an increasingly expeditious, friendly and efficient service to our users”.
Sectoral commitment
The event also included the presentation of success stories of different clusters that have incorporated innovation processes benefiting sectors such as health, logistics, agribusiness, energy and circular economy.
A networking and business matchmaking session was also held to facilitate the exchange between entrepreneurs, investors, research centers and technology companies.
Likewise, Cluster TEC Talks were held, spaces for conversation with speakers from companies such as Google, Platzi, EMIS and Allbreakers, who addressed current topics such as artificial intelligence, startup business models, virtual reality and investment in disruptive technologies.
The event also featured a showcase of technological solutions developed by companies in the cluster ecosystem, highlighting innovations in robotics, precision agriculture, immersive tourism platforms and virtual reality applications in sectors such as health, education and entertainment.
A virtual reality experience of the Science, Technology and Innovation Campus (CTIB) and stands of partners, who presented their range of services to promote scientific and technological entrepreneurship.
The evolution of the Software and IT Cluster
The TEC Cluster is built on the achievements of the Software and IT Cluster initiative, which in the last 10 years has supported the technological development of Bogota and Cundinamarca, boosting business digitalization in the region.
In the last decade, this initiative brought together more than 16 thousand companies that offered digital solutions to key sectors such as health, banking, commerce, creative industry and education.
Among its most representative achievements are the promotion of emerging technologies, the generation of spaces for public-private articulation, the strengthening of capacities in digital transformation and the creation of collaborative networks between companies, universities and state entities.
All of the above is a very solid foundation for the growth of the new TEC Cluster launched this Wednesday by the CCB.
