Bogota, November 2023. This 2023, the 19th edition of ARTBO | Bogota International Art Fair, part of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce's ARTBO arts program, will feature 45 national and international galleries from 14 cities in 7 countries from all continents; 113 participating spaces; 11 sections; and more than 300 artists from around the world.
Among the different components of ARTBO | Fair 2023, the Projects curated section stands out, which exhibits the work of artists who are commercially represented by a gallery and who are selected and invited by a curator. Also, the Site section includes projects that aim to stimulate the viewer's perception of the fairgrounds through the installation of works that transcend traditional exhibition formats.
The Projects section is presented under the curatorship of the Spanish Claudia Segura, Curator of Exhibitions and Collection, Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona - MACBA. Her proposal entitled How do forests think? proposes through semiotics that all forms of life participate in processes of meaning, where the subject exists in all species: the activity of nature, its imaginary, its symbolic and spiritual value.
Participating in this section are Adriana Ciudad (Peru) and Juliana Góngora (Colombia) represented by Espacio Continuo Gallery (Colombia); Clemencia Echeverri (Colombia) from Rolf Art (Buenos Aires, Argentina); Elena Damiani (Peru) from Revolver Galería (Barranco, Peru); Fernando Arias (Colombia) from FORO. SPACE (Bogota, Colombia); Jimena Croceri (Argentina) represented by Piedras Gallery (Buenos Aires, Argentina); Regina Gimenez (Spain) from Ana Mas Projects (Barcelona, Spain); Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe (Venezuela) from ABRA Gallery (Caracas, Venezuela); and Sandra Monterroso (Guatemala) represented by Instituto de Visión (Bogota, Colombia/ New York, United States).
On the other hand, the Sitio section will showcase works in non-traditional formats that will be located on three of the floors of the Agora Bogota - Convention Center. Visitors will be able to appreciate the works of artists Edelmira Boller (Colombia) represented by Salón Comunal (Bogota, Colombia); Ernesto Restrepo Morillo "el Papas" (Colombia) from SGR Galería (Bogota, Colombia); Daniel Nyström (Sweden) from Galería La Cometa (Bogota, Medellin, Colombia - Madrid, Spain); François C. Bucher (Colombia) represented by Alarcón Criado (Seville, Spain); Iván Argote (Colombia) from Vermelho (São Paulo, Brazil); Jaime Miranda-Bambarén (Peru) from Leon Tovar Gallery (New York, United States); Los Carpinteros (Cuba) from LGM Galería (Bogotá, Colombia); Mapa Teatro - Laboratorio de artistas (Colombia) represented by Rolf Art Gallery (Buenos Aires, Argentina); and Nadín Ospina (Colombia) from Galería El Museo/ Fernando Pradilla (Bogotá, Colombia / Madrid, Spain).
María Paz Gaviria, Manager of the CCB's Cultural Programs, stated that "in line with our commitment to the development of the business ecosystem in Bogota and the region, 19 years ago the CCB created the ARTBO Program, with which we seek to promote the growth and competitiveness of the productive sectors of culture and art. In 2023 we celebrate this journey in ARTBO | Fair, the first component of the program, which contributes decisively to the sector by generating spaces for networking and encouraging business between collectors, art enthusiasts and gallery owners, and seeking their internationalization. What began as a fair is today a very complete program that works on different fronts and throughout the year carries out actions dedicated to the circulation and commercialization of art; we have also managed to bring all audiences closer and closer to the arts, and through our training programs we provide constant support to emerging, empirical and consolidated artists".
Botero present at ARTBO | Fair
In commemoration of the artistic work and legacy of master artist Fernando Botero, who passed away in September of this year, the Dove of Peace, a bronze sculpture painted in white, will be exhibited at ARTBO | Feria. This work was donated by the master Botero in 2016, the year in which the Peace Accords were signed, for this reason it has become a symbol of peace and reconciliation in our country.
