As part of its commitment to the cultural and creative industries, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce will hold the eleventh edition of the Bogota Music Market - BOmm, to be held this year between September 12 and 16 in downtown Bogota in collaboration with the Gilberto Alzate Avendaño Foundation, the Gabriel García Marquez Cultural Center and the National Arts Center of the Colón Theater.
This platform for the promotion and circulation of music is prepared to generate new business opportunities in the industry and contribute to the consolidation of the reactivation of the sector, after the effects generated in the context of the pandemic. Thus, BOmm will become the meeting point for musicians, composers, producers, agencies, entrepreneurs, brands, record labels, publishers and music lovers, with national and international buyers.
María Paz Gaviria, Platforms Manager of the CCB, stated that "for the 11th edition of BOmm, we seek to promote the national music scene through actions and dynamics that involve the international market. For this reason, we are pleased to have these cultural scenarios of the city, so important for Bogota, which give us the opportunity to promote the music to approach us again, to turn them into platforms of impulse for artists and bands that will present their productions and compositions live. "All that unites us" is music and all the people who make up this industry, and the Chamber of Commerce is committed to achieving ever greater closeness between them, between musicians, agents, stakeholders, academia, consolidated or just starting their way. The call, which took place between April and June 2022, received proposals from 900 artists, of which 250 were selected. Of these, 150 will participate in the national business rounds and 100 will participate in the international business rounds. Buyers will have the opportunity to see the best of national talent in genres such as salsa, pop, blues, indie, punk, rock, Andean, cumbia, electronic, hip hop, classical, jazz, popular, vallenato, among others. The selection process was in charge of great references of the music scene such as Julio César Escovar, Nadia Orozco, Nicolás Romero, Carolina Gómez, Alejandro Marín, Mariangela Rubbini, Juan
Francisco Medina, Rodrigo Duarte, Daniella Cura, Luisa Piñeros, Gustavo García, Luis Felipe Ríos, Antonio Alarcón, Diana Avella, Freddy Cepeda, Roberto Cardona, Diana Tobar and Sandra Meluk, who evaluated the applicants, offered technical recommendations and indicated the best proposals for the stages of the Showcases (live presentations) in the market.
BOmm 2022 components
From September 12 to 16, the market will feature networking activities and updates on the latest trends in the sector that will bring together the music community in face-to-face spaces.
Showcases, or live performances, of artists and bands selected through an open call. These presentations offer the opportunity for the groups with the best scores by the curatorship to show themselves to the public and national and international buyers, who will be able to appreciate their energy and musical quality in the best conditions.
Business Roundtable, a speed-networking space where entrepreneurs and artists meet to get to know each other or reconnect and conduct negotiations.
BOmm Talks: as part of the academic agenda, there will be face-to-face talks with leading national and international professionals from the sector who will share their experiences, objectives and new ways of working in the industry. Music industry companies will also be present to present new trends, new services and other work formats that are constantly evolving in the music industry.
BOmm Labs: BOmm Labs seek to bring participants closer to the specific tasks of the music industry; these are spaces where experiences and practice are the focus of discussion. There they will discuss professions such as management, marketing, music composition, among others.
Those selected will also be able to participate in the BOmm's business and creative strengthening path, where academic sessions will be held to improve competencies and skills to face the market. In collaboration with the Music Cluster, a cycle of academic activities has been programmed that will allow them to get ready to optimize results during the market. This will take place in Bogotá Distrito Digital, the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce platform designed for this purpose.
The musical projects will also be able to participate in the academic section of the central event, which includes spaces such as talks, workshops, round tables, among others; and the most outstanding ones will have the opportunity to perform in the Showcases, live presentations for national and international festivals, programmers, bookers, representatives of concert halls, advertising agencies, media centers and other music demanders.
