Barranquilla. October 2023. Within the framework of the National and International Congress on Dispute Resolution being held from October 4 to 6 at Puerta de Oro, Corferias Barranquilla, the executive president of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota, Ovidio Claros, has presented a proposal to strengthen the Arbitration and Conciliation Center (CAC).

The initiative focuses on the possibility that the CAC of the Chamber of Commerce of Bogota, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, support through its arbitration to entities such as the DIAN in tax evasion litigation.

In this regard, President Claros commented: "Today I ask the Ministry of Justice to look at the growth potential of our institutions and work together to find effective, efficient and economical solutions. It is necessary to recover the collections that are currently being litigated due to tax evasion. We could work under a look of efficiency in the suitable mechanisms where our Center of Arbitration and Conciliation could widen its arbitration spectrum, helping in the recovery of this money".

Thus, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce opens the doors to create alliances with institutions such as the DIAN in order to work on quick and effective solutions. According to Claros, "the Arbitration and Conciliation Center of the CCB has the necessary tools to accelerate such processes that can take many years since the ordinary law". He added: "I have been reviewing the possibilities so that through the CAC we can have a much larger base so that we can have additional platforms to those we are working on today."

Regarding his recent appointment, the executive emphasized: "We only have one mission: to coordinate, to make the institution grow and to create a permanent dialogue to continue building towards understanding among everyone in this country. In me you will find a person who will be articulating and building on what has been built".

This proposal was presented at the event before personalities such as magistrates, former magistrates, former ministers and members of the arbitration court of the CAC, and aims to strengthen the action of the Arbitration and Conciliation Center.

The relevance of the Arbitration and Conciliation Center in its 40 years of existence

With more than 350 national arbitration cases and more than 5,000 conciliation cases per year, as well as the trust placed by more than 70 international businessmen, the Arbitration and Conciliation Center of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce continues to be a reliable option for conflict resolution in Colombia.
