Bogota October 2023. The Bogota Chamber of Commerce (CCB) and the National Association of Bread Manufacturers (ADEPAN) are holding the second edition of the "Bogota Smells of Bread" event of the year. This event, supported by the Secretariat of Economic Development of the Office of the Mayor of Bogota, seeks to be the epicenter of commercial exchange and knowledge for more than 5,540 bakers in Bogota and the region.
In July of this year, the first edition of "Bogota Huele a Pan" brought together more than 550 actors of the sector at the Kennedy headquarters of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, marking a resounding success. This second edition is expected to exceed expectations, providing a unique platform for dialogue, live demonstrations of innovative techniques, specialized talks and a CCB services fair specially adapted for the bakery sector.
The "Bogota Huele a Pan" event offers bakers the opportunity to keep abreast of the latest market trends, establish key business contacts and learn about strategies that will enable them to adapt to changing consumer dynamics. In addition, the CCB offers business strengthening programs specific to the sector, providing essential tools to close gaps, improve productivity and foster competitiveness.
In Colombia, there are close to 26,000 establishments dedicated to the production and transformation of bread, of which close to 80% are part of the vital fabric of the traditional bakery and the beloved neighborhood bakeries.
The Relevance of the Bakery Sector:
Economic Contribution: With more than 5,540 active companies in Bogota and the region, bakeries generate direct jobs for around 400,000 people in Colombia. Annual sales of bakeries and pastry shops exceed three trillion pesos, showing the significant impact on the local economy.
National Consumption: Bread is a staple food in the Colombian diet, with a per capita consumption of 28 kilos per year. Nearly 98% of Colombians consume bread, and 70% do so daily. This constant consumption habit highlights the cultural and social importance of the bakery sector in the country's daily life.
Business Resilience: Despite challenges such as rising production costs, the Colombian bread industry has shown remarkable resilience. Bakeries have continued to grow and adapt to new market trends, showing an unmatched ability to face challenges and thrive in a changing economic environment.
