Bogota, D.C. February 2025. The Bogota Chamber of Commerce (CCB) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding that seeks to promote solutions and approaches to improve preparedness, response and governance of human mobility in the Colombian capital and 59 municipalities under the Chamber's jurisdiction.

The above, bearing in mind the expertise of the IOM as a leading organization that promotes safe and orderly migration, and provides technical support to the country in the areas of humanitarian assistance, integration and peace building. Likewise, in the implementation of high social impact projects that generate lasting solutions for migrant populations, internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities.

For its part, the CCB works for the development of Bogota and Cundinamarca from the business sector, with the aim of building a more prosperous and equitable society, supporting the economic fabric and promoting its transformation to achieve comprehensive economic and social development.

“Human mobility in Bogota is a challenge that requires comprehensive and coordinated solutions that guarantee efficient management of migratory flows and promote the inclusion, well-being and social development of those who arrive in our city. With the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding, we want to promote solutions that improve mobility in a safe and organized manner,” said Ovidio Claros, executive president of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce.

Fernando Medina, IOM Chief of Mission in Colombia, commented: “The work of our Organization is based on long-term partnerships, aimed at realizing the potential of migration and peacebuilding. We will continue to work together with our strategic partners in the private sector, such as the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, to leave no one behind. This, within the framework of the IOM Strategic Plan 2024-2028, which seeks to promote solutions to displacement and facilitate regular migration channels, with which more people can access integration processes that guarantee their rights and see migration as an opportunity for development and well-being for society in general”.

This Memorandum of Understanding is the result of the mutual willingness to establish a closer cooperative relationship between the CCB and IOM on matters of common interest. It is an instrument of cooperation that seeks to consolidate joint efforts to promote solutions and approaches that improve preparedness, response and governance of human mobility, including displacement in contexts of emergencies and conflict, with a central focus on development, promoting spaces for awareness and sensitization around activities that consolidate a positive and anti-discriminatory narrative around human mobility.
