This event marks the beginning of a new narrative in which the Orinoquia will be recognized as a matter of national interest for the competitiveness, environmental sustainability, food and energy security of the entire country. Bogota, April 2025. The Orinoquia, which covers 22%1 of the Colombian territory, but only 4% of the population (DANE, 2025), is a region of contrasts and unique opportunities. It is an agro-industrial, energy and environmental powerhouse, noted for its fertile lands, strategic resources and biodiversity, key to Colombia's food and economic security. The First National Meeting for the Orinoquia, to be held on April 10 and 11, 2025 in Bogotá, at the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce, Salitre headquarters, will be the scenario to build a development agenda that drives the future, aligned with national priorities and focused on taking advantage of its full potential.
The Orinoquia is the center of Colombia's food security: by 2023 it had approximately 1 million hectares planted with agricultural products, producing G7% of soybean and cashew, 48% of rice, 45% of oil palm, 15% of cocoa and 2G% of bananas. In addition, it is home to 21% of the national cattle herd. It is also the region that guarantees Colombia's energy security: The Orinoquia contributes 77% of national oil production and 26% of biodiesel is produced in this region. Likewise, this region has great potential for the advancement of renewable energies, positioning itself as a key player in Colombia's energy transition. Despite the above, the Orinoquia has not been at the center of the national conversation, so the meeting will not only be a discussion forum, but a platform for action and the construction of concrete solutions based on studies by Fedesarrollo, the Private Competitiveness Council and projects led by Pacto Orinoquia. The meeting will be attended by governors, businessmen, leaders of the private sector and civil society of the most important organizations in the country.
In addition, the Sustainability Ranking will be presented, an initiative of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce that will recognize the most outstanding companies and projects for their commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability in the country. As part of the agenda, there will be networking spaces designed to promote strategic alliances between entrepreneurs, social organizations, international cooperation agencies, embassies and government entities, creating concrete opportunities to promote the integral development of the Orinoquia. We invite all entrepreneurs, investors and leaders to participate in this unprecedented meeting in the country.
