Bogota, October 2022. After three years in which ARTBO, the arts program of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, explored other formats due to the health emergency caused by COVID-19, ARTBO | Bogota International Art Fair returns in its traditional format and dates, from October 27-30, 2022 at the Great Hall of Corferias.

In its 16th edition, ARTBO | Feria will be the platform for 51 galleries from 15 cities and 6 countries -Brazil, Spain, Argentina, Belgium, Chile and Colombia- and more than 300 artists on exhibit. It will also present novelties in the configuration of its space and renowned curators in its different commercial and non-commercial sections, reaffirming it as one of the most important cultural showcases for the visual arts in Colombia and as the central axis of the Colombian art circuit.

María Paz Gaviria, Platforms Manager of the Bogota Chamber of Commerce, called on the public to enjoy the four days of art in the Great Hall of Corferias: "During these three years, the exacerbation of virtuality reminded us of the importance of presence, the privilege of having spaces for cultural exchange, of being able to visit them and hold conversations without the mediation of a screen. ARTBO | Fair is not only an unavoidable visit in the art circuit worldwide, but also a space that will allow us to meet again to talk and enjoy avant-garde proposals, large-format works, learning spaces, emerging art and publications that are also art objects. We want you to celebrate with us this return".

Curatorial team

The artistic exhibitions brought by ARTBO | Fair in 2022 were strictly and meticulously curated by experts in the sector. Among them, it is worth mentioning Gabriela Rangel (Venezuela), curator, writer and independent researcher based in Brooklyn, New York. She recently served as Artistic Director of the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (2019-2021) and from 2004 to 2019 was Director of Visual Arts and Chief Curator at Americas Society in New York.

Also participating is Inti Guerrero (Colombia), co-curator of the 24th Biennale of Sydney and tutor of the Curatorial Studies program at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts-KASK, Ghent. Guerrero has curated exhibitions in Asia, Europe and Latin America, including the Institute for Tropical and Galactical Studies at the Yokohama Triennale 2020, A Chronicle of Interventions, Tate Modern, London (2014) and A Transatlantic Affair.

Also accompanying this edition of the Fair is Simon Castets (France), Director of Strategic Initiatives at LUMA Arles and Executive Chairman of the Swiss Institute in New York. In addition to exhibitions at the Swiss Institute, his recent curatorial work includes the Samdani Art Prize for the Dhaka Art Summit, Rachel Rose at the Aspen Art Museum, and the research project 89plus, co-founded with Hans Ulrich Obrist.

Finally, it is worth mentioning Alejandro Martín (Colombia), a mathematician and philosopher who found in curatorship a space for research and sharing of key issues in the contemporary context. He worked as curator at Museo La Tertulia (Cali) between 2014 and 2021 and was Artistic Director of the 45th National Artists Salon in 2019.

ARTBO Sections | Fair brings together national and international galleries, curators, artists and works of art in different formats and media, focusing on quality and diversity, through commercial and non-commercial sections.

Commercial Sections The Main section will include the participation of consolidated, emerging and avant-garde galleries as a result of a selection process carried out by a committee made up of leading figures of the national and international art scene.

This exhibition is made up of Adrián Ibáñez Galería, Alonso Garcés Galería, Beatriz Esguerra Arte, Casas Riegner, Casa Hoffmann, Doce Cero Cero -12:00-, Espacio Continuo, FORO. SPACE, Galería Elvira Moreno, Galería Sextante / Taller Arte Dos Gráfico, GRIS Galería, La Balsa Arte, Galería La Cometa, LA Galería, LGM Galería, Nueveochenta, Otros 360°, Policroma, Salón Comunal, SGR Galería, SKETCH (Colombia), mor charpentier (Colombia-France), Instituto de Visión (Colombia-United States), El Museo/Fernando Pradilla (Colombia-Spain), Rolf Art, Waldengallery (Argentina), Central Galeria, Galeria LUME, Vermelho, Verve, Max Estrella, Galeria Quadra, ZIPPER Galeria, Galeria Athena (Brazil), Nordés, Galeria Zielinsky, Alarcón Criado (Spain), Factoría Santa Rosa (Chile) and Newchild (Belgium).

In Referentes, Gabriela Rangel (Venezuela) -curator, writer and independent researcher- proposes to activate the memory of the group exhibition Ante América, Mosquera, Carolina Ponce de León and Rachel Weiss, organized by the Luis Ángel Arango Library of the Banco de la República. Rangel puts in correspondence this exhibition -as a palimpsest- together with an accumulation of works by contemporary artists of the hemisphere, leaving as the center of this story Bogotá, thirty years after the commemoration of the Fifth curated in 1992 by Gerardo Centenario del Descubrimiento de América.

In Projects, Inti Guerrero (Colombia) -Artistic Director of the 24th Biennial of Sydney- brings together, under the title Projects of Nation, visual and sound vocabularies that not only reveal the aftermath of failed national projects, but also celebrate desire, humor and enjoyment as critical safeguards against the eminent apocalyptic shadow of the future. Some artists in the curatorship make reference to ancestral technologies and knowledge; others start from the dystopia of the ruins left behind by developmentalist utopias, while others find beauty in the forms of resistance engendered by the urban fabric.

The Sitio section will bring together modern and contemporary art proposals, including performances, installations and sculptural pieces. For this edition, works by artists Leonel Castañeda (Colombia), Karen Aune (Brazil), Federico Ovalles (Venezuela), Ricardo Cárdenas (Colombia), Alejandro Tobón (Colombia), Carlos Rojas (Colombia), Luis Caballero (Colombia) and Robert Llimós (Spain) will be exhibited in the Great Hall of Corferias.

Non-commercial sections

The Artecámara section, in charge of Alejandro Martín Maldonado (Colombia) -mathematician, philosopher and curator- will showcase the work of promising young Colombian artists without commercial gallery representation. Under the title, 32 artists, 2 duets and 1 collective will explore Todo Nada volverá a ser como antes, different paths of transformation, ranging from a sensitive reflection on the memory of the conflict and all those futures that have been mowed down, to a radical transformation of the way we understand ourselves as animals and as part of an environment that we have refused to listen to.

Forum, an academic component of ARTBO | Fair curated by Simon Castets (France), Director of Strategic Initiatives at LUMA Arles, in collaboration with LUMA, part of the complex trajectory of Tropical Gothic, through the lens of Provence's own dark mythologies. Under the title SPF 666: Gothic Provençal, Castets harnesses the transgressive spirit of Tropical Gothic as a generative matrix to explore disturbing specters and cultural responses: environmental doom, the specter of colonialism, and magical thinking. Admission to the Forum will be free of charge.

The Artist's Book section brings together publishers that have explored the book as an artistic medium, with the purpose of promoting research, creation and experimentation in art. For this edition, the curatorship is in charge of Caín Press with the proposal entitled Ups, something went wrong.

Finally, Articularte brings together laboratories and workshops designed to bring the public closer to art through interaction around contemporary artistic practices. This year's curatorship is in charge of Paulo Licona, María Adelaida Samper and Gabriel Zea and is titled Un estudio del paisaje. This space will review how artistic production can inform and promote the restoration of social ties that were blurred during the health emergency.
