Silver Economy, an opportunity for wellbeing and business

05 June 2024The CCB launched the Silver Economy for Business Program, which seeks to strengthen companies to develop new products and services to improve the quality of life and well-being of the elderly population.

In Bogota, 16% of the population is elderly, a percentage that has been growing in recent decades. This represents about 1.2 million elderly people, according to the report of the Observatory of the Secretariat of Health (SaluData).

This is a population that should not only be prioritized in their care, welfare and quality of life, but also opens business opportunities through the development of new products and services focused on meeting their needs, interests and tastes.

Faced with this reality, the Bogota Chamber of Commerce (CCB) has an offer of Cluster Initiatives that work on the competitiveness of companies in productive sectors and from which an opportunity for connection around the elderly has been identified.

“We seek to generate more and better opportunities for companies to develop products and services aimed at the senior segment,” explained Ovidio Claros Polanco, president of the CCB.

In a joint effort, the CCB and more than 430 companies of all sizes and actors in the popular economy will strengthen services and products that promote an active, healthy, long-lived and socially integrated senior population.

“Colombia is one of the countries that is aging the most and this longevity represents a great opportunity because people have more time and it is also the longest stage of life. We are going to raise awareness among these more than 400 companies and there will also be personalized accompaniment for them to develop new products and services, benefiting companies and also the elderly,” said Juan Carlos González, vice president of Competitiveness of the CCB.

Mauricio Maldonado and his son Andrés are two entrepreneurs who represent the services offered to this segment and have focused several of their actions on the senior population. “The senior is the largest market in the world due to the transformation,” says Maldonado.
